Coach Mark Cain is honored to be the First Head Baseball Coach of the Wildcats here at Walnut Grove. He is entering his 13th year in education. Coach Cain is a native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he graduated from Pine Bluff High School and was a 4 sport letterman with multiple awards and recognitions, including the Wendy’s High School Heisman and Brandon Burlsworth Awards for Arkansas.

After high school, he attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and continued his playing career, lettering in both baseball and football. The OBU Baseball team was nationally ranked as high as #1 in 2007 and 2008 and was the National Runner-Up in the D-II World Series in 2008. He completed his undergrad at OBU in Secondary Education and Kinesiology.

After college, Coach Cain began his coaching career as an assistant under Hall of Fame Coach Kirk Bock at Bryant High School in Bryant, Arkansas. The Baseball program was nationally ranked each year from 2011-2014. The Hornets won 2 State Championships and competed in another during his 4 years at Bryant. Coach Cain relocated to Texas in 2014. He joined the Prosper community by coaching and teaching in PISD. Coach Cain was a part of another State Championship team at Prosper High School in 2015 under Hall of Fame Coach Rick Carpenter. Throughout his Texas coaching career, he has coached at Prosper, Little Elm, Rock Hill, and now Walnut Grove High School.

Coach Cain and his wife Shelby live in McKinney with their 2 daughters, Saylor and Kyndal. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and traveling! Go Cats!
