Walnut Grove Baseball - Assistant Coach McLane Hanson

ASSISTANT COACH

McLane Hansen

  • UNLV

Coach McLane Hansen is honored to be part of The Walnut Grove Wildcat Baseball Program. At 51, he has dedicated his life to a variety of sports. A 1992 high school graduate, McLane played both baseball and football. He was recruited to play football at Ventura Community College, where he also walked onto the baseball team. Later, he continued his football career at UNLV, once again earning a spot on the baseball team as a walk-on.

While at UNLV, McLane also trained in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, a discipline that would shape his future career. After earning his B.S. in Radiologic Science, he transitioned to teaching Gracie Jiu-Jitsu full-time for the Gracie family. Over the next 25 years, he trained students and professional UFC fighters in Las Vegas, NV, and opened four BJJ academy gyms across Nevada, California, and Texas. Among his students was UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir.

McLane began coaching baseball in 2010 alongside his sons, Xander and Parker. A close friend from high school, 13-year MLB veteran Dmitri Young, provided invaluable feedback on Xander’s hitting mechanics. McLane also benefited from elite coaching throughout his youth, including instruction from Ken McMullen, whose career was featured in The Science of Hitting by Ted Williams. His longtime friend Jon McMullen, who later played professional baseball for the Phillies, also played a pivotal role in his development.

In 2021, McLane founded RC Prospects, a travel baseball organization, and launched Recruiting Coach, an online platform designed to help high school players gain exposure to college recruiters.

In 2024, McLane had the honor of joining The Walnut Grove Wildcat Baseball Program as a volunteer assistant coach under Coach Mark Cain. Reflecting on his journey, he shares:

“Out of everything I’ve done in my 51 years, being married to my wife, Tiffini Hansen, for 25 years and having the opportunity to coach high school baseball at WGH is the most humbling and coolest thing yet.”
